This installation incorporates the Japanese proverb, "Deru kugi wa utareru" which roughly translates to "The nail that sticks up the farthest takes the most pounding." It includes 120,313 rusted nails, stained copies of family letters and archival documents (Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians testimony from the National Archives, Washington, DC), burlap sacks, wood, styrofoam, and paint.
