Installation

Issei, Nisei, Sansei,… was an installation commissioned by the Washington Project for the Arts (WPA) in Washington, DC for their annual Options exhibition. It shows the immigration journey of three generations of a Japanese American family. Viewers walk over a glass covered path and through three successive doorways representing a traditional Japanese house, a wartime Incarceration camp barracks, and an aluminum-sided American home. The interior space is composed of several sculptures alluding to the artist's experiences as a Japanese American.
